Rehabilitation Services from Southcoast Health

Spinal rehabilitation is a specialized program designed to help patients facing challenges from spinal injuries or disorders. Whether due to trauma (like an accident) or a medical condition (such as MS or degenerative disc disease), our goal is to reduce pain, increase mobility, and maximize independence.

Our spinal rehab services include:

  • Comprehensive Functional Assessment: Tailored rehab planning based on mobility, strength and neurological function.
  • Mobility Training: Helping patients relearn walking or improve wheelchair use with assistive devices and gait systems.
  • Neuromuscular Re-education: Stimulating nerve and muscle recovery through exercises and therapeutic techniques.
  • Spasticity & Pain Management: Treating stiffness, nerve pain and complications with targeted interventions.

We care for individuals with complete and incomplete spinal cord injuries, including those facing scoliosis, contracture or autonomic dysreflexia.

Occupational therapy is a vital part of brain and spine rehabilitation, helping patients rebuild the skills needed for everyday activities like grooming, cooking and dressing. Our occupational therapists collaborate with physical and speech therapists to create comprehensive recovery plans tailored to your goals.

Key focus areas include:

  • Cognitive Rehabilitation: Addressing memory, attention and executive function challenges.
  • Visual-Perceptual Training: Supporting vision and spatial awareness recovery, especially post-stroke or TBI.
  • Upper Limb Recovery: Improving coordination, strength and motor skills in arms and hands.
  • Adaptive Tools & Techniques: Training with specialized equipment for easier daily routines.
